General Fit

90% of women fit an Average‑size cap. Accurate measurement ensures comfort, stability, and proper movement of the prosthetic base.


How to Measure Circumference

  1. Start at the front hairline. Hold the beginning of a soft cloth tape measure firmly in place.

  2. Wrap the tape around the head following the same placement shown in our Studio Hair® diagram.

  3. Seat the tape correctly:

    • The tape must sit below the occipital bone (the rounded area at the back of the head).

    • Ideal placement is ½" to 1" below the occipital bone.

    • The tape should rest naturally at the fold where the head meets the neck, just above the natural hairline.

  4. Pull snug—not tight. The goal is a secure, accurate measurement without compressing the head shape.


Understanding Fit & Back “Bagging”

All non‑silicone prosthetic wigs should have a small amount of space or “bagging” in the back. This is intentional and allows:

  • Natural head movement

  • Flex without the wig riding up

  • Proper contouring over different occipital shapes

If needed, a professional tuck can be made—similar to tailoring clothing—to refine the fit.


Studio Hair® Head Size Guide

Circumference is the primary measurement used to determine cap size.

  • Ultra Petite: 19" – 20"

  • Petite: 20" – 21"

  • Average: 21" – 22½"

  • Large: 23" – 23½"

  • Extra Large: 23½" – 24½"


Adjustability

Unless otherwise noted, all Studio Hair® wigs include adjustable nape tabs for fine‑tuning the fit.

Step One: Circumference

Starting at the front hairline, hold the beginning of the cloth tape in place. Wrap tape around the head in the same position as the diagram; pull tape snug. This measurement is the circumference of the head.

Step Two: Front to Back

Starting at the front of the hairline, hold the beginning of the tape in place. Place the tape down the middle of the head to back nape area, about one inch below the occipital bone (at the base of the skull). This is the front-to-back measurement of the head.

Step Three: Temple to Temple

Hold beginning of tape at one side of the head, right at the temple area (usually level with the slit of the eye but back at the temple area, ear to ear). Slide tape across front hairline tightly until it reaches the opposite side of the head, exactly at the same spot as where the other side began. This is the temple-to-temple measurement.
